Family and Kingdom

This is my mom and i in the summer of '71 or '72. The pics below are of Luke, Bree and Nate around the same ages. My sister is the image of my mom (she hates it when people say that :). Tomorrow the five of us in this western clan fly from Calgary to Ontario to see my family for some play time and then off to New Brunswick to see Dar's family for a week.

And our house is finally sold and empty. A new family moves in here on the 18th. We return from holidays on the 29th of August - and we have no idea where we will be living in Canmore. We're taking that big refreshing leap of faith into the unknown that is only known to God. Not that we havn't tried to force the unknown into our knowing. We have done everything humanly possible to find a place in Canmore. God certainly has his plans for us. So we watch and pray.

Canmore will be about prayer and worship and new music and spiritual leaders of the nations coming and going from the highest town (elevation) in Canada. It will all unfold in time. And our support will grow as God releases people to us. Moses had many holding up his hands. David had his Gaddites and then his Jonathan. Elijah learned that there were many hidden supporters of the kingdom all around him.

Within the strength the Spirit provides we are all people movers. Churches are to be furnaces of salt and light in their specific communities. And where the candle is smoldering and the reed is bruised - the body needs healing before it can ever fully become its full self in its place within the organic ebb and flow of a real kingdom filled with such living stones.

Remember Gideon... (let's see if I can get this right from memory) he's from the tribe of Manassah... hmmm that's Joseph's son from an Egyptian wife - a half breed Jew - foreparents of the Samaritan's. And who was Gideon up against? Midianites.... hmmm, Ishmaelites... the other son of Abraham, from Hagar the Egyptian. So Gideon is Joseph half breed Egyptian setting out against Abraham's half breed Egyptians with the help of His God... the God of the Jews!? And who was it that mobilized the Midianites against Israel in the first place? Oh, right, God! It's all family. Jews and Gentiles becoming one people of God (Romans).

Then there's Moses who spent 40 years in Midian where he marries a Midianite girl... very interesting stuff.... considering all that is going on in Lebanon these days. All that geography and all those peoples go way back don't they... who is in and who is out? Who has who's blood in their veins?

Reading Jacques EIlul (French sociologist) taught me that the kingdom has a center in Jesus Christ but it has no circumference. We can reject none and yet give assurance to none. Whoever has found a whispered way in or helped someone else find the way ... it's all about His good grace (Gordon Fee).

No, I'm not a universalist. I am just very open minded and willing to listen and learn. Christians should be the most open- minded listeners on the planet. There is so much I am willing not to know. And I think what I don't know qualifies me somehow. It makes me lean on faith and grace a whole lot more. It's like the difference between singing to the setting sun and anticipating the rising sun. Those two songs would sound distinctly different even though both are about the Sun. It's the same with faith that knows and faith that does not know. Faith that does not know sings so much more beautifully. Yes, one may know that the Sun is coming over the crest of that hill any moment. But it does not take away from the wonder and surprise of that glorious light. It's time to face East and sing a welcome to the morning sun.

Life circles around us. Gravity and intertia. Planet is the Greek word for "wanderer". When it comes to family and kingdom I want to be intentional about slowing down and allowing the gravity of God's directive call to draw me down and into the deepest places where healing and restoration are needed. Sometimes it's painful to walk through historical things together. Much of it is humbling and refining and there's nothing but pure gold on the other side.

Only the living words of Jesus Christ can undo the bloody turmoil of coiling Leviathan.

Obedience is thicker than blood.
The person who obeys my heavenly Father's will
is my brother and sister and mother.
Matthew 12:50 (MSG)

Modern Christianity is incapable of tackling
the current false and seductive spiritual forces.
It prefers to assail those of yesterday,
which are already dead.
In the second place,
Christianity is losing its impact
through endless self-criticism,
A criticism which is just as false as its attacks.
Jacques Ellul – The New Demons

If one is to lift a whole generation, verily one must know it.
Hence it is that these proclaimers of Christianity

who start straight away with orthodoxy
have not much influence, and that only upon a few.
For Christendom is very far behind.

One must begin with paganism…
If a man begins at once with Christianity,

they say, “That isn’t anything for us,”
so at once they are on the defensive.
But, my whole work as an author is one great thought,

and that is: to wound from behind.
Søren Kierkegaard – Christian Discourses

Kirk, praying for you guys to be refreshed on holidays, and for a place to suddenly appear in Canmore for you.
Did I ever tell you that your family had been on my heart and I'd been praying for you the week you sent out the email announcing your plans to move? More importantly, did I tell you that the whole time you guys were on my mind that week it was as if God was telling me that you were moving on from Calgary? That I knew somehow what sort of news that email would contain before I ever opened and read it?
I believe that God is in this for you guys, and that He will provide abundantly, but my prayers continue in excitement as I wait to see what He does, and as I dream about the young people you will mentor and teach to pray in your new home in the mountains. Can't wait to join you there and have some of the converstations we've never quite got around to having here.

hey kirk!
thanks for your prayers! i'm in singapore right now - who knew i would be here?! only God. He leads us each step of the way...and as i'm preparing i remember what ortberg said in his book, 'if you want to walk on water you have to step out of your boat' go into the unknown kinda like abraham. to love is to obey and i'm really focusing on that right now as i get ready for my sharing tonight at one of the fellowships here. pray for me - i'm feeling offish (physically) but i'm ready to be His mouthpiece!!
really hope to catch you when you're in toronto! take care!

Lisa, thanks for carrying us in your huge heart.

Just before reading your comment I was writing this in an email to a friend in Ontario who had been writing about dancing in the rain:

"Earlier in the spring I was praying with a bunch of guys and they were
going on about the fire of God coming down out of the sky... and all I
saw the whole prayer time was rain falling. So I prayed, "God, why is
it we are looking for fire when all that is falling is rain?" And the
whole room went silent. Then I added, "God, put more water on that
altar - purify that altar - so that when your fire falls, it'll be a
pure miracle on a pure sacrifice"... (thinking of Elijah on the
mountain)."

So Lisa, when you think of us pray for rain. That purifying stuff that kids dance in and grown ups shelter themselves from. Our family wants to dance in that rain :)

Kat, I will continue praying for your physical strength here for the next couple of hours. And that His strength would be made perfect in your weakness. Do you remember when we were backstage at your second "Youth On a Hill" and those thousands of Chinese youth were waiting out there and you were about to speak and you had no idea what you had to say? And I told you that you had nothing to say... And then you went out there and said something :) and then came backstage all frusterated and upside down... and we prayed and looked at scripture - and you and I both knew you were going back out there. So I went out front and began praying all around the people... and then you came back out, and the Holy Spirit was already present in love and power through the music, and you preached like an Old Testament prophetess. You were glowing. You literally had the glow on.

And I saw Him in you then. I saw all that you were going to grow into in His love and power and I wept at the sight and sound of a girl who was more than herself in the presence of her King - and there just happened to be a few thousand witnesses of His glory in and through you that night.

I think that was the night I pounded the pavement with my fist calling on God for more of that... More young leaders with such humility and dexterity and encouragement and passion and prayer and word and deed.

Kirk,
I had to laugh when you wrote about rain drops. The last time you preached at converge, during the worship time just before you spoke, as everyone around was crying out for the glory of God to fall, I had the tiniest flash of a picture - not God's glory waiting to fall in fire as is so often described, but in these huge plump drops of rain, shimmering gold with the glory of God. I wrote in my journal, "Big, plump raindrops waiting to fall, but they're shimmering gold with the glory of God." God is here as I'm reminded of this, and I tremble a little at his presence. So yep, when I think of you this next while I'll pray that you'll be people who dance in the rain - the rain tinged with the glory of God. I didn't understand that image when it appeared to me that night, but I think I do now.

Yah. Grace Like Rain. Amazing Grace. Thanks for praying for us in Mexico, Kirk.

Will be keeping you in prayer in the coming days too...and as you step through the door of transition, may you truly dance in greater freedom and may you continue to draw water from the wells of salvation, as the well inside you becomes deeper and the water clearer.

Isaiah 12:2 The Message
"Yes, indeed—God is my salvation.
I trust, I won't be afraid.
God—yes God!—is my strength and song,
best of all, my salvation!"

3-4Joyfully you'll pull up buckets of water
from the wells of salvation.
And as you do it, you'll say,
"Give thanks to God.
Call out his name.
Ask him anything!
Shout to the nations, tell them what he's done,
spread the news of his great reputation!

Hi there.

It was the summer of '71
And it was the time of hippies, Jesus freaks, and a true moving of The Lord God Almighty.
Wow....was I confused,
do I get a tatoo?
am I a fanatic?
do I really take this thing the Bible serious?
As to the tatoo...I almost did...a butterfly.
As to being a fanatic, "a fool for Christ", yes.
And as to taking the Bible seriously, God had His Way.
Thankyou Lord !
He can overcome anything!

To be transformed by the "renewing of the mind".
To be set free,
To be filled....,
To be cleansed,
To be made confident,
To be made whole,
To know The Truth,
To trust someone..........who doesn't vasilate, lie, cheat, etc, who loves with an everlasting love, who "wants" to give strength, wisdom, "living water".
And all I had to do was to believe Him.
Jesus is "alive".
"And works all things together for good..."
Though the way be thorny,
bumpy, foggy, and narrow.......God helps us to seek His Face....always.
Lord increase our faith, (trust).
Lord help us to exercise the faith,(trust) we already have.
Help us all to stay on the path that You have chosen......
just give us enough light for the next step......
Thankyou for Your Grace, Mercy that is new........... daily......
As we take
Your hand and walk thru this day together, may it be all about Your love.

Can't wait to see you all :) :)

"Faith that does not know sings so much more beautifully."
I'm holding that close to my heart today.
I danced barefoot in a thunderstorm with about 6 other young women about 6 years ago - it was a great incredible release of something in me...still don't know what it was - so I've got a great visual to pray for you guys this month.
I'm singing a song here in Canmore.... can't wait to see what God has done(cause it is done already) for you guys...
blessings, blessings, and more blessings

Hi Kirk,

I keep praying for you and your family. It is great to see you continuing to step out in faith. Some have left comments regarding rain and fire. This Monday (August 7) there is a Rock The City event in Winnipeg for the youth. It is being put on by the BGEA. Third Day is playing and Ron hutchcraft is presenting the good news of Jesus Christ at the MTS Center (our big Arena). A bunch of us were praying yesterday at the venue and one woman told us of how Isaiah 43:18-19 and the verses around it were on her mind for the past few days (GOd doing a new thing). Will you and whoever else reads this comment pray for a mighty downpouring of rain on Monday evening and then the fire of God. We really need people to realize GOd again!! A month ago as I was preparing to for a preaching assignment, the account of Elijah on Mount Carmel kept coming to mind. What if it is time for GOd to turn the hearts of His people back like He did when the fire fell on the soaked sacrigfe, altar etc.? Please pray. We need God. People need to see the glory of God and have a fear of Him again. Wouldn't it be something if all activity in Winnipeg and beyond would have to stop because there is such a awareness of God? People would have to say Surely God is here. People hearing the Word spoken out and responding to God? I am getting carried away. Take care and have a great time with your family. Thanks for praying.

Mike B.

LORD...I THANKYOU FOR THIS DAY.

I COME TO YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS AND THROUGH HIS SHED BLOOD, FORGIVE US OF ALL OUR WRONGS LORD, AND ENABLE US TO DO GOOD. WE CONFESS THAT WE NEED YOU.
IF YOU DO NOT MOVE BY YOUR SPIRIT IN THE HEARTS OF ALL THERE IS NO POINT IN DOING WHAT WE DO.

I AM TIRED OF ALL THE BLUSTER LORD.
PLEASE CUT THROUGH ALL CONFUSION WITH YOUR WORD, PLEASE HEAL THOSE WHO ARE EMOTIONALLY TORN, THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN OVER POWERED BY ALL THE CONFUSION IN THE WORLD. MAY YOUR HOLY SPIRIT PREVAIL THROUGH ALL THE HYPER ACTIVITY CALLED MINISTRY.

PLEASE GIVE TRUE DISERNMENT, REMOVE THE VEIL,
I THANKYOU FOR ALL THE MANY DIFFERENT PARTS OF "YOUR" BODY, PLEASE ENABLE THEM TODAY, TO DO WHAT YOU WANT, AND PLEASE BLESS WITH YOUR VERY BEST.

I THANKYOU THAT YOUR WORD DOES ACCOMPLISH WHAT YOU WANT, AND DOES NOT RETURN TO YOU WITHOUT DOING SO.

I THANKYOU THAT YOU CARE, EVEN MORE THAN WE DO ABOUT THE HEARTS AND LIVES OF ALL.
AND THAT THERE WILL BE RESULTS, NO MATTER WHAT THINGS LOOK LIKE ON THE SURFACE........TIME...YOUR PERFECT TIMING, WILL BRING ABOUT YOUR RESULTS.

IN JESUS NAME.

Hey everyone, thanks for stopping in. Been a while since an update... I'll try to get some thoughts out in the next day or so. We are in Moncton and heading out here in a couple of minutes for two days in Halifax visiting family and friends. We started our trek in London/St. Thomas/Simcoe, Ontario and then here to Moncton, New Brunswick - now a couple hours drive to Halifax, Nova Scotia - then back here and off to a little island off the coast for a wedding on the weekend - and then back to God knows what (literally, He alone knows) in Canmore :)
